India's poor education system has resulted in a huge mismatch between the economy's massive labor needs, and available skilled workforce. Each year, 12.8 million people enter the workforce but the shortage of trained manpower is expected to reach 300 million jobs by 2022. The reason for this is that while youth entering the workforce have finished 12 years of schooling they are unsuited for employment in the formal workforce due to a lack of skills such as formal communication skills, English skills, skills to operate computers and use software tools, basic math, presentation skills and group-interaction skills.

One of the key fast growing sectors in India is the financial products industry comprising of banks, insurance companies, brokerages and non-banking financial entities. International Institute of Financial Markets (IIFM) has launched a training program for those seeking to enter the financial industry. Firefish handles the marketing of the program that is launched by IIFM. Over 500 students were trained by Firefish-IIFM through TradeNow.

There is a rapidly growing culture of entrepreneurship in India driven by success stories of Indians in the Silicon Valley and a resulting acceptance and lionizing of homegrown entrepreneurs by the Indian media. Many youngsters today will list their aspiration as 'Entrepreneur'. However, there is a lack of an ecosystem that fosters this entrepreneurial energy. First generation entrepreneurs need support systems to help them grow and bloom.

Entrepreneurship training with Gold Nib Fellowship Commission

There is a rapidly growing culture of entrepreneurship in India driven by success stories of Indians in the Silicon Valley and a resulting acceptance and lionizing of homegrown entrepreneurs by the Indian media. Many youngsters today will list their aspiration as 'Entrepreneur'. However, there is a lack of an ecosystem that fosters this entrepreneurial energy. First generation entrepreneurs need support systems to help them grow and bloom.

Gold Nib Fellowship Commission has launched an Entrepreneurial competition coupled with training and guidance. The Gold Nib Fellowship allows the selected entrepreneurs to successfully close seed funding. Firefish is the strategic partner for Gold Nib Fellowship Commission and seeks to develop an alliance with young entrepreneurs who are in the field of Education.

Last year, over 800 entrepreneurs applied for the Gold Nib Fellowship Awards and over 100 entrepreneurs applied for the Gold Nib Fellowship.

DonorsChoose in the US connects classrooms in need with individuals. For instance, a teacher may request on DonorsChoose that her classroom needs reference books such as dictionaries and thesauruses so that children can learn better. This need of $500 may be met by perhaps 25 donors each contributing about $20.

Micro-philanthropy portal - a consulting project for a Leading Social Venture Fund

Micro-philanthropy is an increasingly popular model for connecting communities in need with individual donors that want to give to a specific cause. DonorsChoose in the US connects classrooms in need with individuals. For instance, a teacher may request on DonorsChoose that her classroom needs reference books such as dictionaries and thesauruses so that children can learn better. This need of $500 may be met by perhaps 25 donors each contributing about $20.

A leading social venture fund wanted to investigate if a similar idea could work for India. Firefish investigated if Indian classrooms could be connected with donors worldwide by researching the idea extensively, talking to experts, talking to potential schools and talking to potential donors. Regulatory issues related to transmitting non-profit money between countries were researched.

The resulting plan that Firefish created was partially funded by the Social Venture Fund and entrepreneurs were tasked with raising matching funds.

A US-based Private Equity company was evaluating several acquisition opportunities, with a specific focus on education companies, to merge with their publicly listed entity.
Due to the extensive experience of Firefish in the education sector and also Firefish's expertise with publicly listed entities, Firefish was chosen by the US-based Private Equity Firm for this project.

Evaluation of education companies for acquisitions - for a US-based Private Equity Firm

A US-based Private Equity Firm was evaluating several acquisition opportunities, with a specific focus on education companies, to merge with their publicly listed entity.

Due to the extensive experience of Firefish in the education sector and also Firefish's expertise with publicly listed entities, Firefish was chosen by the US-based Private Equity Firm for this project.

Firefish's valuation assessments, merger process suggestions, and integration suggestions allowed the US-based Private Equity Firm to maximize its shareholder value.
